Principal’s Welcome
St Clair School in beautiful Ōtepoti | Dunedin was established in 1896 and is located right near St Clair Beach. It combines its historic roots – reflected in its original classroom, now used as the school hall, with modern, flexible learning environments and recently expanded grounds, including a new turf in 2025 to support play and learning.
The school is committed to fostering enthusiastic, engaged learners who enjoy coming to school. It offers a rich and varied curriculum supported by specialist teachers in music, Mandarin, and physical education, ensuring every child has opportunities to develop their strengths and interests. Academic achievement is consistently strong, underpinned by a focus on developing confident, curious learners. Students’ diverse needs are supported through both extension and targeted learning programmes.
Te ao Māori is embedded throughout the school, with all classrooms teaching te reo Māori to level 4B of the curriculum. The school celebrates its multicultural community. Students and whānau represent around 60 cultures, which is reflected in displays such as the iwi and world maps.
Core values: Manaaki, Belonging, Resilience, and Pono – guide daily life. Community feedback from parents highlights high satisfaction with caring, approachable teachers and an inclusive, safe environment. The school warmly invites visitors to discover for yourself the magical space that is our kura.
